Seeds of Hope Costa Rica
Last month I was lucky enough to participate in an incredible community organization here called Seeds of Hope Costa Rica. Seeds of Hope is a program that takes in women who have been sexually exploited in the sex trade industry in Costa Rica and gives them a chance at a new life. Many of these women have been exploited since a very young age and find themselves with no other options. Seeds of hope provides them with a safe place to live and a way to earn money to support themselves as they get back on their feet. The girls in the program make jewelry such as earrings and bracelets, which are sold to provide money for basic living expenses. The organizers of the project asked if I could take pictures of the girls making the jewelry, as well as some photos of the jewelry itself, and one of the jewelry with a model. These photos would be used to help promote the organization online, as well as used for an online store to sell the jewelry. It was a very fulfilling project, and a unique challenge to try to photograph the girls working but without revealing their identities.
