Villa Caletas is one of those venues that makes every wedding feel like a luxury wedding. The decor is stunning, the rooms are luxurious and comfortable, the staff is attentive and friendly, and the view is to die for.
As you’ll see in the ceremony photos, the venue boasts a large area complete with Greco-Roman columns and an infinity pool. If that weren’t amazing enough, it’s all set against a spectacular backdrop impossible to create with human hands, the Pacific Ocean.
It was the perfect setting for Jordan and Richard’s elegant, luxury wedding.
The Couple: Jordan and Richard
Richard grew up in Costa Rica and as a result, Jordan and Richard travel here often. They love visiting friends as well as it’s such a great place to relax and unwind. Thus, it seemed a natural choice to have their wedding in this beautiful country.
Destination weddings tend to be on the smaller side. Of course, that doesn’t always hold true, there’s no rule about how big they can be. But that’s simply the nature of these types of weddings. Fewer folks can come and help wish the couple well on their new journey.
In Jordan and Richard’s case, however, they already had lots of friends and loved ones here in Costa Rica. Their wedding was a little on the larger side with around 100 guests and a sizeable wedding party.
For that reason, I was psyched to have my good friend Joseph Nance with me as second shooter. With two photographers we could be super sure that nothing was missed and we got great shots of all their guests, especially candids during the reception. Joseph Nance is an excellent wedding photographer and I recommend checking out his amazing work in Guatemala here.
The Unexpected Little Moments
As a photographer, I love capturing real moments. Genuine emotion–whether it be smiles, laughter, surprise, or tears–is my absolute favorite. That’s what I love about weddings. People often let down their guard on these special days. I get a glimpse of them without their “camera ready” face and that’s the shot I go for.
Jordan and Richard were definitely on the same page with what they wanted from their photography coverage. Before the big day, Jordan communicated that the shots she wanted most were the ones she didn’t know to ask for. The special moments that really make the day. Like Richard’s face when he saw her in her dress for the first time, or the poignant moment with her dad as he walked her down the aisle.
Of course, we got all the traditional shots as well–those are what make a gorgeous, luxury wedding album to show the kids and grandkids. But we focused on getting plenty of real, raw moments. The kind of priceless moments that the family can treasure for a lifetime.
